Ep. 05 / The Carnivore diet: Is it worth the hype?
There are advantages and disadvantages to starting and for me the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.
For one most on this diet aren’t eating organ meats which are rich in certain vitamins and minerals and are mostly just eating muscle meat, which is great for protein which breaks down to amino acids and these are the building blocks for our whole system
However, when you eliminate or lack in fibre from vegetables and fruits which often is the cause for gut issues to begin with like IBS, dysbiosis and SIBO you end up lacking in SCFA, which vegetable fibre breaks down in to, and this is what FEEDS our beneficial and “good”bacteria. Eliminating this provides the perfect storm for opportunistic or “bad” bacteria to grow which an imbalance of these bacteria to begin with is more often than not the cause of most of our gut issues, whether it be from lack of fibre, antibiotic use, stress even. Beneficial bacteria regulates inflammation, you need a good population of “the good guys” and a simple probiotic over the counter may not completely cut it as not all probiotics are created equal. You need to address the cause and carnivore diet may not be it, it may provide short term relief but it’s kinda of creating a perfect storm to be giving you more trouble further down the track.
